Position: CCD Record Technician
Department: Cansayapi Cultural Department (CCD)
Reports To: THPO, Cultural Dept. Director
Status: Part Time, 20-25 Hrs./week
Salary: $17.00/ hourly

Position Summary:
The Records Technician is responsible for assisting the CCD Director/THPO with all aspects of management including reporting, research, and preservation-related duties. The Records Technician will coordinate and manage Lower Sioux’s archival and artifact collection, focusing on enhancing management, conservation and access to the collections. The Records Technician will manage existing database management; plan and design educational activities for community members, staff, and guests; clerical/administrative tasks for the department; and communications across the tribe and region to ensure high level of participation in all Lower Sioux CCD activities. The position will manage, enhance and gather community archival information, including oral stories, images, research materials and donations. The Records Technician will inventory existing research materials at Lower Sioux Agency and create avenues for community and public access.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Excellent research and writing skills are required
- Must have knowledge of digital preservation issues and digital sovereignty practices.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and follow directions from CCD Director/THPO.
- Familiarity with Federal laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines governing historic preservation (Public Information Act, Intellectual Properties Act, Archival and Conservation methodologies)
- Demonstrated commitment to working with special collections or archives; Knowledge of information research methodologies and techniques;
- Knowledge of historical and genealogical information resources;
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize complex requests for assistance and information;
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
- Demonstrate commitment to managing LSIC research hub materials, archival resources and collections.
- Catalogue, manage and launch digital archive management systems for LSIC
- Catalogue and manage LSIC Research Hub materials.
- Will acquaint researchers with resources, policy and procedures of department; recommend sources and collections for research.
- Conducts complex historical research to answer requests;
- Experience with Xcel, Outlook, Mukurtu digital archival system and other database software
- Identify and work on special cultural/ historic preservation projects, in consultation with the CCD Director and Staff:
- Must be familiar with processing & preparing evaluative forms, research summaries and establishing a centralized-digital database to house sensitive documentation.
- Set up and maintain confidential and legal files and records; edit reports, site records, and create maps as needed using coordinates-as needed.
- Maintain expertise in various computer software programs applied to specific tasks
- Willing to sign a confidentiality statement and follow all LSIC rules in the Employee Handbook.
ACCESS TO SENSITIVE AREAS AND INFORMATION
Cultural Resources Inventories, site records, maps. Community and family histories.
REQUIREMENTS:

- Valid Driver’s License & Valid Auto Insurance
- At least 18 years of age
- 2-year post-secondary certificate in digital technology, archaeology, museum management or historic site management certification/experience. Knowledge of Dakota history and language.
- Must be committed to being Drug and Alcohol Free in the Workplace and during employment.
- Must be culturally sensitive and have a basic understanding of tribal cultural practices.
- Must have strong to excellent computer skills.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must be able to follow detailed directions
- Must be able to work well under pressure and in stressful situations
- Must be able to work independently as well as with others in a variety of conditions.
