Title: Early Childhood Coach/Disabilities Coordinator

Reports to: CWOO Director

Wage: $26.67/hour

Summary
The Early Childhood Coach will work in direct conjunction with the Education Coordinator, Center Supervisor/Preschool Navigator and Mental Health/Disabilities/Education Specialist in the planning, coordinating and implementation of the education program. The focus of this position is on developing and overseeing the teacher’s professional development plans. This position will work as a colleague with classroom teachers to support student learning and teacher best practice, will focus on individual and group professional learning that will expand and refine teachers understanding of Early Learning and School Readiness, CLASS, and the Creative Curriculum Infant/Toddler and Preschool core features. Emphasis on achieving Early Head Start & Head Start Learner Outcomes. Collaborate with the Education Coordinator to ensure that Dakota pedagogy and language is incorporated into all classrooms.

The Disabilities Coordinator oversees Disabilities Specialist and directs the planning, organizing and implementation of education services for children, with the aim of integrating Dakota language into the classroom-based and home-based options to establish a culturally affirming and effective ground for healthy child development at Lower Sioux. These services contribute to the increased social competence in children and the recognition and enhancement of parents as the primary educators of their children.

Duties

  • Ensures the staff has all required professional development and is supported to their professional development needs.
  • Develop, and monitor, professional development plans for all teachers and assistant teachers.
  • Partner with the Education Coordinator, Center Supervisor/Preschool Navigator, Mental Health/Disabilities/Education Specialist and Dakota Iapi Curriculum Specialist to integrate Dakota language and lifeways into the classroom.
  • Observe and monitor all teachers.
  • Using Practice Based Coaching Methods, provide reflections from observation and data, give and receive supportive and constructive feedback, problem solve, and identify supports and resources.
  • Ensure the use of child and classroom data in lesson planning and individualization.
  • Provide weekly and monthly professional development updates and trainings at staff meetings.
  • Maintain monthly meetings with Education team to ensure curriculum is culturally relevant, contains Dakota Iapi, differentiation and ELOF standards.
  • Remain up to date on, and communicate to team, all evidence-based curriculum, screening, and assessment tools.
  • Coordinate along with Education Team all annual training on curriculum and Early Head Start trainings.
  • Attend staff training and meetings, and board and parent meetings as requested.
  • Ensure individual staff members receive assistance in identifying their training needs, and improving their knowledge and abilities
  • Participate and oversee in the development of I.E.P. (Individual Education Plan) or I.F.S.P.’s (Individual Family Service Plan)
  • Assist in recruiting and orienting volunteers, providing them with guidance as needed
  • Review and approve completed and submitted required reports in a timely and accurate fashion
  • Actively participate in the development and implementation of the Teacher Professional Development plan
  • Ensure that files and documentation are complete, accurate, and confidentiality maintained
  • Obtain CLASS observation certification and maintain practice-based coaching training
  • Monitor the implementation of all IEP/IFSP in the classroom with the Disabilities Specialist; working closely with LEA, Mental Health Consultant (MHC) and Center Supervisor to schedule IEP/IFSP evaluation and follow up meetings with staff and families; ensuring required team members attendance and other staff per parent/guardian approval.
  • Oversee incident and concern forms;
  • Oversee IEP/IFSP and MHS observations to Child Plus;
  • Work with LEA/MHC to develop resources for classrooms and families;
  • Oversee SEL teachings in classrooms;
  • Conducts weekly staffings with Disabilities Coordinator;
  • Oversees in yearly Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with Local Education Agency (LEA)
  • Assist individual staff members in identifying their training needs, and improving their knowledge and abilities;
  • Implement modifications and accommodations along with family support;
  • Oversee the tracking and uploading of developmental screeners to ensure they are completed in a timely manner to meet the Head Start Standards requirements. Will coordinate with Disabilities Specialist and Center Supervisor for rescreening and referrals;
  • Other duties as assigned

Education

Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and/or related field.

Experience

At least 5 years of experience teaching and/or coaching in early childhood education.

Experience in coordinating or conducting mental health and disability services.

Education and/or experience in collaborating with parents in the education of their children

Demonstrate commitment to creating educational opportunities for Lower Sioux and Native children that align with and sustain Dakota Language and lifeways
