Title: Center Supervisor/Preschool Navigator
Reports to: CWOO Director
Supervises: Teachers/Floating Teachers/Substitute Teachers
Wage: $25.14-$25.39 Based on experience
Summary
The Center Supervisor/Preschool Navigator has responsibility for the daily oversight of CWOO center operations, including assurance of compliance with minimum standards and standards established to assure a high-quality program. Furthermore, this position integrates Dakota language into all levels of the CWOO program as well as navigating preschool access and screenings for all Lower Sioux Indian Community children ages birth to five. This position also has oversight of CWOO facility management.
Duties
- Ensures that the CWOO center environment is welcoming to children, families, and staff.
- Coordinates education program, in cooperation with CWOO Director, Mental Health/Disabilities/Education Specialist, and teachers.
- Speaks and role models Dakota language with all staff, families, and children to promote and sustain a Dakota language learning environment.
- Supervises Teachers, Floating Teachers and Substitute Teachers. Schedules staff to ensure ratios are maintained at all times;
- Monitors the inventory of site materials, supplies, and equipment; makes purchases for the center, staying within the site budget such as: reviewing weekly shopping list, ordering to prepare for new students, maintaining inventory of diapers, wipes and formula.
- Assures accurate, complete, and confidential maintenance of employee and child records such as: daily sheets, emergency contact information, over the counter medication consent, Pick up/Drop off authorization, All about my Child form, General Consent Form, Daily Health Check, Incident/Ouch form, Concern form, screening reports and quarterly TS Gold reports.
- Conducts monthly staffings, participates in team meetings and schedules child staffings. Collaborates with Education team in Professional Development and training scheduling.
- Assesses current and future facility needs;
- Maintains knowledge of licensing requirements and Child Development;
- Assures that all center-level documentation and reports are complete, up-to-date, and accurate such as: weekly Classroom/Playground safety checklist.
- Conducts staff performance evaluations and development plans such as ensuring completion of CDAs and enrolling in continuing education.
- Schedules and prepares for quarterly home visits/parent conferences and completes follow up including creating conference form, updating tracker with completed conferences, reviewing and uploading conference documents, ensuring Successful Learning Goals are made in collaboration with Education Team.
- Attends monthly meeting with Education team that includes Education Coordinator, MH/D/Ed Specialist and Dakota Iapi Curriculum Specialist to ensure that Dakota Language and Lifeways are integrated into the classroom.
- Attend meetings and trainings, as requested, to keep abreast of trends in the various service areas.
- Collaborates with Education team on the transition of children to Head Start, and assist with the children’s transition to their next destination at the end of the season
- Ensuring TS Golds are completed quarterly by classrooms
- Collaborate with PFCE department to help bridge the classroom to the home.
- Review lesson plans to ensure completion. Collaborate with Education team for successful implementation
- Maintain CWOO center licensing as a tribally operated center.
- Coordinate with MH/D/Ed Specialist to schedule IEP/IFSP/Mental Health observations and meetings.
- Work with Lower Sioux Education Department to help connect services for all Lower Sioux lifelong learners.
- Establish Early Childhood screenings to administer Lower Sioux children ages birth to three.
- Assist in the administration of the Lower Sioux Early Childhood Education Scholarships.
- Work with Lower Sioux Education Department to help connect services for all Lower Sioux lifelong learners.

Education
Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, OR CDA, with minimum two years of experience as a preschool teacher or supervisor.
Experience
Knowledge or familiarity with Head Start. Understanding of the current state of the art in early childhood education, child health, mental health, and familiarity with the fields of disabilities services and parent involvement. Familiarity with community resources. Knowledge of childcare center licensing standards as well as standards of other regulatory bodies preferred. Effective, supportive supervisory skills, including the ability to assist personnel in developing self-direction. Sound understanding of Developmentally Appropriate Practice, cultural diversity, and inclusion. Speaking Dakota Language preferred. Demonstrated commitment to creating educational opportunities for Lower Sioux and Native children that align with and sustain Dakota language and lifeways.
Additional Requirements
Regular access to a reliable vehicle; vehicle insurance which would include periodic transportation of program participants. Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and/or weekends. Ability to pass a health examination and criminal background check. Ability to work effectively with minimal daily guidance. Knowledge of community resources. Successful experience working in a team setting. Ability to present a positive image of the organization to members of the community. Visual and auditory acuity within professionally determined normal ranges, with correction if needed. Ability to lift up to 55 pounds required. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer and other office equipment, including, but not limited to, the telephone, fax machine, copier, and tape recorder. Must be able to travel, enter and exit a vehicle without assistance, and withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions.
