POSITION: Wicozani Youth Ambassador
DEPARTMENT: Lower Sioux Community Health Department
REPORTS TO: Lower Sioux Community Health Director
SALARY: Dependent on qualifications
STATUS: Approximate 10 hours per month
Open until filled through June 30, 2026
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lower Sioux Indian Community Health department is seeking Indigenous Youth currently in grades 9th-12th (2022-2023 school year) to assist with health and wellness related planning and events. The Wicozani Youth Ambassador will be responsible for providing a unique and youthful prospective to health-related initiatives and projects within the Lower Sioux Indian Community sponsored by the Lower Sioux Community Health department and the Lower Sioux Health and Human Services Advisory Committee (LSHHAC). Specific responsibilities throughout the duration of the position will include, but are not limited to:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attending and contributing to monthly LSHHAC meetings
- Coordinating with Healthy Generations Project Coordinator, Community Health Director, and Community Health staff planning team to carry out monthly intergenerational activities
- Promoting and supporting Dakota culture and language
- Desire and ability to work collaboratively with team members and other departments
- Quick and proactive learner
- Polite and professional manner
- Team-oriented player
- Ability to work independently and with limited supervision
- Maintain respectable visibility in the community
- Adhere to program policies and procedures, as well as all Lower Sioux Indian Community Human Resources Policies and Procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and a high degree of professional ethics
- Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Currently in 9th-12th grade (2025-2026 school year)
Skills & Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Working knowledge of computer operation and skills in Microsoft Office
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and perform well with some independence
- Understanding of Lower Sioux cultural values, lifestyles, and traditions
- Excellent attendance and punctuality is a must
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and positive working relationships with community and staff
- Subject to drug screen and background checks
- Interest in and commitment to American Indian/Alaska Native health and wellness
- American Indian preference applies
Physical Requirements:
- Physical activity associated with this position will include, bending, lifting, standing and carrying
